New Class: Guided Meditation

December 6th & 20th:  In the Pink presents a new free class…Zero Stress Zone!  join others in experiencing the beauty of guided meditation (yoga nidra).  linda altman will teach this class every other week on tuesday evenings at 6:00pm at in the pink.  Through guided meditation, simple stretches and breathing techniques, you can relax the mind so that the body can de-stress and bring itself back in balance.  There is a direct link between stress and disease.  We can reduce that stress by attending this great class with other cancer survivors.  Please RSVP by calling 372-0029 or emailing sallie@jaxinthepink.net.  Please bring a yoga mat, blanket and small pillow.

Yoga classes for all cancer survivors will continue throughout the month of December on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 10am.  PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR SATURDAY MORNING CLASS IS CANCELLED FOR DECEMBER 24TH AND DECEMBER 31ST.  IN THE PINK WILL BE CLOSED ON BOTH DATES.  Please reserve your space each week by calling 372-0029 or emailing Sallie at sallie@jaxinthepink.net.  We appreciate your thoughtfulness in letting our instructors know how many will be present in each class.  Remember, hair is optional!

NOVEMBER is LUNG CANCER AWARENESS  and PANCREATIC AWARENESS MONTH.  It is also the month we celebrate our caregivers.  Please don’t ever forget to thank those men, women and children who help care for us during our cancer journey, as well as our other health issues.  These are very special people in our lives and are often forgotten.  Everyone seems to pay attention to the patient and forgets that this is a “family journey.”

NOVEMBER 11TH:    TO LEARN MORE ABOUT DRAGON BOAT RACING, PLEASE JOIN US AT 7:00 PM AT LULU’S WATERFRONT GRILLE, 301 NORTH Roscoe Blvd. in Palm Valley/Ponte Vedra.  If you know of businesses that would be interested in participating, invite them to attend as well.  This will be a really exciting venture and great for Jacksonville!

November 11th:  Cocktails for a Cause presents Helping Hands for Lung Cancer.  University Club, 1301 Riverplace Blvd., downtown Jacksonville.  4:30-6:30 pm.

November 19th:  Pancreatic Cancer Event at Whisky River; Registration begins at 11:15 am.  Event begins at 12:00 pm.  Join a fabulous poker tournament to help raise awareness and support fo the fight against pancreatic cancer.  For more information, contact Diane Dudsash-Dykes at ddudash-dykes@pancanvolunteer.org.

IN THE PINK is opening its second location in the Hill Breast Center at 1235 San Marco Blvd., 4th Floor in Jacksonville!!!  MORE TO COME ON OUR GRAND OPENING ONCE WE HAVE FINALIZED A DATE!!!  Thanks to Baptist Hospital for supporting this effort! 

YOGA will continue to be provided for all cancer patients FREE OF CHARGE at In the Pink on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm and Saturday mornings at 10:00 am.  Please RSVP if you will be attending a class to sallie@jaxinthepink.net as a courtesy to our instructors. 

BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP held the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm.  Free and open to all breast cancer survivors.  Provided by Mayo Clinic & the Christina Phipps Foundation.  Meeting held at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, 45oo San Pablo Road, Stabile Bldg. JOIN US FOR A NEW PROGRAM FOR ALL SURVIVORS!!!  In the Pink is partnering with Snap Fitness and Jump PT to provide a new fitness program called STRETCHING WITH SURVIVORS.  This program is devoted to helping cancer survivors get back into shape through gentle stretching and low-impact strength training.  The class will be taught by professional athletic trainers who are ready to help us all get back into the groove!  Classes will be offered throughout October on Thursdays from 1-2 pm and 7-8 pm.  You need not be a member of the gym and the fee is only $5 to help pay our trainers.  Please join us at Snap Fitness located in the Target Shopping Center at the SE corner of Beach & Hodges Blvd.  The gym is on the side of the center facing Hodges.  THANK YOU SNAP FITNESS AND JUMP PT!!!

OCTOBER 1ST:  BOOBSAPALOOZA is back again this year!  Tickets are on sale at In the Pink for $10 or you can purchase tickets at the door for $15.  For those with an active duty military ID, tickets are $5.  This is a great event each year held by Bands Against Breast Cancer, a non-profit organization committed to empowering women to take control of their healthcare and teach women life-saving breast self-examination techniques.  Hear ten bands that will be performing throughout the day beginning at Noon at Lynch’s Irish Pub in Jacksonville Beach. 

OCTOBER 1ST:  The Pink Ribbon Symposium at Thrasher Center in Orange Park from 8:30am-1:00pm.

OCTOBER 6TH:  Pink Ribbon Golf Classic holds their 5th annual golf tournament in Ponte Vedra.  All proceeds benefit Mayo Clinic Jacksonville and Baptist Beaches Hospital.

OCTOBER 7TH:  Join In the Pink at the Atlantic Coast High School vs Bartram Trail High School football game at 7pm.  Proceeds from the game will benefit In the Pink!

OCTOBER 8TH:  Honoring all BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS!  UNF and Mayo Clinic present the 7th annual UPBEAT PINK…a musical tribute to breast cancer survivorship.  This year’s program is titled “A Night in Vegas” and will feature music from memorable Las Vegas shows performed by UNF Wind Symphony conducted by Dr. Gordon Brock and UNF Chorale Ensembles conducted by Dr. Cara Tasher.  Special guest speakers this year are DR. EDITH PEREZ of Mayo Clinic and our own JERI MILLARD of In the Pink.  This event is free to the public.  7:30 pm at Lazzara Performance Hall, UNF Fine Arts Center.

OCTOBER 12TH:  The Donna Foundation and Parkway Plastic Surgery are proud to host AN EVENING ON THE PINK CARPET, a fashion show featuring breast cancer models.  Tickets are on sale through The Florida Theratre.  Prices are $75 VIP (which allows for better seating and a VIP reception beginning at 6:00 PM) and $35 General Admission.  Fashion show and seating at 7:30 pm.  For more information, visit www.thedonnafoundation.org/events.  All proceeds benefit The Donna Foundation.

OCTOBER 15TH:  AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY’S MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER takes place in three locations throughout Jacksonville.  The beaches event features a three mile walk on the beach beginning at Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach at 8am.  Registration begins at 7am.  Register a team at www.putonyourpinkbra.com/firstcoastbeaches.  This is a non-competitive, free event.  Gather a team now…it only takes two to represent a “team.”  Have your team raise money that benefits the American Cancer Society.
